Shapes and Colors are the signature elements of the watercolors of Linda Chalberg. Landscapes and florals are composed of simplified shapes that fit together like pieces of stained glass, mosaics or quilts. Enhanced colors seem to glow as light passes through layers of transparent watercolor and bounces back off the white of the paper. With sketchbook in hand, the composition begins on location, en plein air, and concludes in the studio. When you visit with Linda as she shares her journals, her process and her paintings, you will be inspired to see the world in a different way. A travel journal bulging with mementos, notes, and sketches is one of Linda's most treasured possessions. She takes inspiration and information collected from travels to create expressive watercolors. She enjoys the challenge of working out a composition and the magic that occurs when paint flows onto the paper.
Linda, doing her favorite thing....on location in Crested Butte, Colorado.
"Painting en plein air is wonderful, frustrating, transforming, challenging, and enriching. Soaking up the sights, sounds, and smells, feeling the heat of the sun or the blast of a cold wind, holding a paintbrush in one hand while grabbing a bite of local food with the other, all combine to help me capture what I feel about the subject. Bugs in my paint? They just add texture!" lindachalberg@gmail.com
