Shapes and Colors are the signature elements of the watercolors of Linda Chalberg.  Landscapes and florals are composed of simplified shapes that fit together like pieces of stained glass, mosaics or quilts.  Enhanced colors seem to glow as light passes through layers of transparent watercolor and bounces back off the white of the paper.  With sketchbook in hand, the composition begins on location, en plein air, and concludes in the studio. When you visit with Linda as she shares her journals, her process and her paintings, you will be inspired to see the world in a different way.

A travel journal bulging with mementos, notes, and sketches is one of Linda's most treasured possessions.  She takes inspiration and information collected from travels to create expressive watercolors.  She enjoys the challenge of working out a composition and the magic that occurs when paint flows onto the paper.

"Painting en plein air is wonderful, frustrating, transforming, challenging, and enriching. Soaking up the sights, sounds, and smells, feeling the heat of the sun or the blast of a cold wind, holding a paintbrush in one hand while grabbing a bite of local food with the other, all combine to help me capture what I feel about the subject. Bugs in my paint? They just add texture!"

  • Come by the Carriage House Gallery of Artists at 110 Rosewood in Boerne, Texas.  I am of one of the nine artist-owners and there's always one of us there!  Open Monday-Saturday 10-5, Sunday 12-5  830.248.1184

Don't miss Second Saturday each month from 4-8pm!  All the artists will be at the gallery (me, too!)

As autumn and winter bring  refreshing, cold air to the Texas Hill Country, the Virginia Creeper bursts into bright reds, decorating the trees, fences, and stone walls just in time for Christmas.  There might still be some small blue berries that haven’t been found by the birds and small mammals.  Be on the lookout for Mother Nature’s garlands, even in your own back yard.   Imagine how lovely it would be to have Boerne’s iconic gazebo festooned with this native plant….no batteries needed, for this “Boerne Christmas”.

    Merry Christmas!
