"Springtime Symphony"

As I was working on this painting, I thought of it as "pots on steps". Not a very attractive title! A fellow artist commented that these pots, brimming over with spring flowers, reminded him of musical notes as they sat on the steps. He thought a good title would be "Springtime Symphony". Good advice!

"Missions Melodies"

Whether sounding an alarm, celebrating joyous occasions, or tolling times of sorrow, the bells bounded the community together by chiming their melodies. Looking carefully, the viewer can pick out the distinctive shapes of San Antonio’s famous missions. This painting won me Signature Status in the Texas Watercolor Society.

"November Hill Country"

Fall is my favorite time of the year and the Texas Hill Country is my favorite place. So, it was a perfect match to set up on Paradise Point in Tapatio Springs near Boerne and capture the depth of fall colors in the undulating hills. Working en plein air, or on location, is my favorite thing to do!

"Narni Hillside"

I was always amazed to see how the towns of Umbria were built, clinging to the hillsides. The olive groves cascaded down into the valley below. Especially interesting were the tiny vegetable gardens nestled into the smallest places. A wedding motorcade passed by us as we sat on the sidewalk and painted this hillside in Narni.

"View from the Balcony"

Montefalco is known as the “Balcony of Umbria” because from its high, panoramic lookout, the view extends for miles to the surrounding hill towns. I took multiple photographs and then did several sketches, trying to absorb the entirety of the display before we enjoyed the picnic lunch set out for us by our driver, Antonio.
